Enough complaining this trimester, it’s time to get pampered! I’m talking about massage, pedicure, nails, hair, whatever makes you and baby your bump happy! Pretty soon I’ll be taking care of another human being 24/7 and thinking of their needs, it’s time to think about mine and make sure this baby has a good environment to live in. It all started with booking a FREE massage, that’s right, I had a credit at a spa because of a booking mishap so I decided to finally use it! I went to Ervanaria Victoria Inc Spa, a Holistic Centre that offers a variety of services ranging from massage therapy to physiotherapy, acupuncture and personal training and they also sell a variety of Canadian holistic products on site, like a holistic pharmacy. Try to find a spa where the staff are experienced in caring for pregnant women. Let them know how many weeks pregnant you are when you book your appointment. They’ll help tailor your pampering sessions so they’re all perfectly suitable for your particular needs. – Baby Centre UK.
According to the American Pregnancy Association studies indicate that massage therapy performed during pregnancy can reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches and joint pains, and improve labor outcomes and newborn health. Massage therapy addresses different needs through varying techniques, one of which is called Swedish Massage which aims to relax muscle tension and improve lymphatic and blood circulation through mild pressure applied to the muscle groups of the body. Swedish Massage is the recommended massage method during pregnancy because it addresses many common discomforts associated with the skeletal and circulatory changes brought on by hormone shifts. Hormone regulation in women who received bi-weekly massages for only five weeks, hormones such as norepinephrine and cortisol (hormones associated with stress) were reduced, and dopamine and serotonin levels were increased (low levels of these hormones are associated with depression). Reduction in swelling and edema, massage helps to stimulate soft tissues to reduce collection of fluids in swollen joints. This also improves the removal of tissue waste carried by the body’s lymph system. Improvement of nerve pain, massage therapy addresses the inflamed nerves by helping to release the tension on nearby muscles. Many women have experienced a significant reduction in sciatic nerve pain during pregnancy through massage. Other benefits include: reduced back pain, reduced joint pain, improved circulation, reduced edema, reduced muscle tension and headaches, reduced stress and anxiety, improved oxygenation of soft tissue and muscles and better sleep.
After what I’d say was the “best massage of my life” I looked down at my toes and thought, these need an upgrade, so I walked into Le Belle Nail & Spa for a pedicure! Make sure you choose a place that is well ventilated and preferably doesn’t specialize in gel nails or other chemical treatments, also a place that sterilizes their tools after use. Pedicures are exceptionally useful during pregnancy, as the abdomen grows larger. Eventually, the pregnant woman may not be able to tend to her own toenails as reaching them, or even seeing them, is impossible. – BabyMed.com
